Mental Health in Athletes
When it comes to mental health in athletes, the concept of athletes struggling can go over the head of some people. However, it is a very serious issue that needs to be brought to the forefront of the news. In a 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association article, sixteen percent of the women's sports participants said that they feel very lonely constantly or most every day. This was a five percent drop percentage points from the survey that was collected in the fall of 2020. Another ten percent of women's sports reported feeling that things that were hopeless, compared to another 16% who responded that way in the previous survey. 38% of those in women's sports and 22% of the men's sports participants reported feeling mentally exhausted constantly or most every day, which is the most common concern that was reported.
